Recently bought a 2000 MC SS. The rear view mirror on the inside is giving a double image and I was whether it might be a fuse, or maybe a replacement mirror would be needed. I am not much of a gear head, but would really like to figure this one out. Thanks

Confused by what you're saying. Can u post a pic maybe?

 

I believe that he means that the dimmed version(nighttime) and regular reflection are both showing up. so there is the normal reflection of the car behind you, and then about 1/2" down, there is the same reflection, just a bit darker.

I have no clue on how this would be fixed though..

 

I'll see if I can get a pic of what I'm talking about. I'm not above replacing it. Its not really clear how I can take it off. Johnlh97, you are right in your description of it, that is exactly what I mean.

 

My assumption is that the liquid inside the mirror that auto-dims is starting to evaporate and giving you the ghosted image.

If you turn off the auto-dim feature, does it get any better?

 

No, it does nothing. I am probably just going to have to replace it. They aren't very expensive, I have to work out the best way to remove it and replace it. Not extremely handy with cars, but willing to learn on the go.

 

Should just need to unplug it and just slide it up. I don't think our 2000 has a set screw.

I'm on my third mirror because of the fluid in it. I never had an issue removing or reinstalling
