Rear Defroster Issue 2006 Monte Carlo
Hello,
I am having trouble with my rear defroster. It is not melting frost, ice, or whatever.
The Relay is Good. I test that with a 12v source and an ohmmeter. Energize the coil, and the switch closes and makes continuity
I disconnected the wire on the driver side so I that am working with an open circuit.
Test light from ground to passenger side wire or grid yields a very dim light.
Test light from ground to driver side wire yields no light.
As soon as I hook the defroster back back up on the driver side, the test light goes out.
It is almost like there is a voltage drop from the battery to the clip that supplies power to the defroster.

Thank You,
I just stumbled on that same thread, and was going to say, "Never mind, I found another thread, and then post that link." You beat me to it. You gotta love this forum.
Thanks,
Jeff

You can actually just use the test light between the two contacts on the grid where the wires plug in to tell you if the grid is energizing or not.
If not, odds are the wiring harness found in the passenger side foot well fuse panel access is messed up. It's a simple fix. I explained it in post # of the link Chris shared. GM used an under rated connector in that harness and it burns out, causing the defroster not to work.

I know.. I wanted to go to ground because I trusted my ground connection.

I feex! Thank you for all of the help!
I cut the wires, and jumpered with with an inline fuse.
What the hell is wrong with GM? Why would they do that? I suppose it saved them money not having a seperate connector for the defroster.
