Default Radiator Advice?

What’s going on fellas, been a while; anyone still on here?

The Rytek Monte is getting such much needed downtime and much deserved maintenance and, maybe some upgrades….

The radiator is leaking at the right side (caps?) and is losing a full tank of coolant every day. Question is, should I go OEM or looking for something better? I do plan on adding a ZZP L-36 sc kit at some point..I have looked at their over sized radiator but I don’t think the fan shrouds would fit, as I run SLP headers and sit close as it is. I’ve heard about the 97/98 fan setup but how much work is involved and am I REALLY getting a better rad for the trouble?
I do plan on running a SSIC (not right away) with the system but that may be a few months down the line too.

Also, thoughts on Timken vs ZZP hubs; I’m getting service traction and abs light so I know I’ve exceeded my 2 years on the OEMs, again…

Any help would be appreciated,

Johnny

GTP Radiators should fit and they are a tiny bit better.

I had a shop actually just put extra thin fans into my Monte because my remote supercharger was hitting my stock fans.

Timken hubs are very high quality. It's my replacement brand of choice.

Thank you for the reply.

How much modding is required for the GTP's to be put in an L-36? I would go with a a custom super light fan but I'm running the Casper fan switch and probably wouldn't allow for that...

If it's not THAT much better, is it worth the trouble?

Sweet...Where do you typically purchase them? Do I require any special tools to install (pressed in?)...I'd take it to a Mech but I'm just about to have my wheels refinished and would be super pissed if they came back jacked (which has happened a few times)...So I'd rather try myself with a friend (who is a mech)...

Gtp radiator should just drop right in. It's a touch larger and better for supercharged applications. I'm actually probably supposed to have one lol.

Timken hub. You need an axle socket that is around 33 or 34 mm. A sledge hammer helps get the old hub off if it is stuck lol.

It's not hard. A few bolts after you remove the rotor and a clipped on sensor. GM recommends not reusing the hub bolts. Some people do. I got new ones from a dealer.

Edit: I buy mine from amazon

FYI the radiator off the 96-97 Z34 is even bigger then the 98-99. the DOHCs got the largest radiators of the Wbody's. and i would suggest doing a complete topswap vs the ZZP kit. it will take more time but mods will be cheaper down the road as you have a normal belt system vs the single belt from the ZZP kit. also you get a chance to freshen up all the gaskets.

It's just two bolts, correct (hub bolts)?

The hub comes with the wheel lug nuts already pressed in, right?

Yeah, to me, it seems like TOO much work...I don't feel like messing with the heads as I recently just got the gaskets done, I've also heard the top swap idles funny when cold...We shall see..I still have to get the braking system back to 100% and suspension refresh...After that, I'll see if I still want to dump more money into her..

Doing track days on my R6 also eats lots of spare cash I use to have for her...:laugh

There are 3 bolts behind the hub i think. Also yes the wheel studs are already there.

Awesome, thanks. I'm going to ask my buddies dad if we could knock this out...

I'm also re-doing a refreshing the Wilwood system....They offer (and cheaper)black electro coated rotors rather than the zinc ones I've been getting. It will be interesting to see how it will come out.
