Question About a 2006 MC SS!
Hello! I'm VERY interested in a MC in Michigan for 9 Grand. This seems like a very good deal to me. It has 90K miles on it, and is in excellent condition. Just wondering - the guy said that this V8 engine does burn up a small bit of oil. Is this something to run away from? It is quite a treck to get to his house, as he lives 14 Hours away!

it is a common issue. displacement on demand is the cause i have heard. so if it burns oil you could get a tuner and shut DOD off and oil burning should quit

DOD/4 cylinder mode causes the oil burning.
There is a recall for it, but it has to be documented by a dealer, never done it, but it seems to be a long process.
I have 4 cylinder mode tuned out....Before I did this, I was burning about a qt of oil(Mobil 1 Synth, 5w-30) every 4-5 miles....Now that I have it tuned out the last two oil changes I have not burned any. But yeah, It is common, and is just something that comes along with the DoD...Not a huge deal.
As for 90k..Thats alot of miles...You should head over to ls1tech.com, the LS4 performance section and check out the thread on all the transmission failures..Generally speaking most happen to occur within 80,000 miles or less....Im not trying to talk you out of it, Just trying to give you a heads up, I currently have transmission problems with mine lol.
If you go check it out do a test drive..See how it shifts into first and second, make sure there is no clunk or delayed response. Put it into reverse a few times, also make sure there is no delay or clunk in shifting...Get it up to speed, 40-50 mph, then give it a little gas..Make sure it doesnt bog down, and has smooth shifts..If it doesnt have any problems, honestly your good to go I believe in the transmission area.
Besides the transmission these are great cars, and there really isn't anything else to worry about.

OK, thanks guys. Now, you talk about getting it "Tuned" or whatever to eliminate the 4-cylinder mode thus eliminating oil consumption.. how can I do this? Or should I take it to a mechanic or something to git'r'done? I'm 16 so I probably won't be able to do it myself unless it's really really easy haha. Be specific! Thanks
