Default Problem with the Monte, overheating

Well just hit 100k miles last week, and now the first problem came up in 4 years of owning it.

Driving home from work tonight i stopped at a light and the car started to over heat, Then once i got to highway speeds it went back to normal. Any sort of slowing down and the temp gauge would go back up. coming to a stop and it would top out to the red. Cruising again and it would go back down ect ect.
I stopped at a gas station and saw smoke coming out from under the hood so i shut the car off and took a look, and it was smoking from around the serpentine belt area, and below it and out of my passenger side wheel well. i checked my fluid and it was down to the bottom of the resivour (just checked 500 miles ago and was full) meaning i probably leaked it.
When i started up the car after letting it cool ti limp it home, the power steering didnt work for about 15-20 seconds then worked the whole ride home. Same thing the ride home too temps fine cruising, got hot slowing for turns and such
Any ideas? Im guessing my water pump is going bad, sound right?

If the car is cooling off at speed, that points to a problem with the electric fan not kicking on.

Hi `Devin,
Sorry 2 read about your problem.
If it's not a 02 sensor & the fans are working `OK (?)..It sounds like your water pump gaskets are leaking or the pump is bad

Do you have a dry place to park it & check under your S.S. or a garage with a lift that you can put it on to check it closer ?

Just my non/tech opinion....Good Luck on finding the problem & resolving it 4>Sure...

Below is a vid that may give you some idea on how to change the pump (if U are going 2 do it yourself) Pick me `Up & I will help `ya

Your water pump is probably failing, since it works at speed, the belt is helping push fluid through.

I believe everyone has been talking about the reman ones not being great, and needing to go new.
