Not sure what we can tell you?
I'm going to assume it's the 3.1L engine. Check this video: JOE THE AUTO GUY: Bleeding the coolant system on a gm 3.1 or 3.4 revised
If he didn't get the air out of the system, the heat wouldn't work right. The steaming could be something not closed up completely and coolant hitting hot parts.

Everybody did not intentionally skip over your post.
Anyway, the leaking coolant probably came from something your husband did. Check the radiator hoses and make sure they're connected and tightened with clamps. The heat isn't going to work right if there's not enough coolant in the system.
The steam probably came from coolant getting on the exhaust manifold.
Look to see where it's leaking from. That's the best advice I can give.

When he removed the Radiator Cap and added the Antifreeze did he get it tight again. This is tough to do, so if he removed that, he needs to really press down and turn at he same time, otherwise you will get leaks.
Tell us more about he car?
Hope you are successful.
