Once it starts making noise is that it? New motor time?

are you sure its a rod? if it is its time for a complete rebuild or a engine swap.

Whats the difference between a 01 ss 3.8 and 02 ss 3.8 if any? Jus askn cause i plan on swappin motors.

I don't think there is a difference between the 2, I don't think the 3800 even went under any changes until the series 3 was designed.

No difference. You can use all the way up to an 03. Actually you can use anything below an 05 in the pontiacs or buicks that came with the 3800 non supercharged that is. Unless you plan on changing the PCM too.

So if i swap tha 3800 from the 01 ss into my 02 ss i wont have to worry about PCM issues?
