Default Other VIN locations 76 Monte Carlo

The VIN tag under the windshield of a 76 Monte Carlo I just purchased is rusted to the point that it is not readable. Is there another location on the car where the VIN is permanently attached. Thanks

There should be another Vin# location either on the firewall, or if the doors are original... You may find a sticker with the vin as well. (Drivers door)

If the original vin tag in the dash is rusted out...You may run into an issue with the law....

I would recommend reading whatever numbers you can on the dash vin plate...and head to the secretary of state and see if they cant get you the full vin#.

Or take it to the local Police station, and have them check it out also...
Just to be sure that its plateable....and to also dbl check that it matches the Title... (Take the title with you)

Then,
I would recommend:
Takeing it to the local PD..
Let them check it out,(Take the title with you)
and get documentation from them and go to the secretary of state with it to get it plated...

Then either call GM or go to a local chevrolet dealer and see if they can re issue a new vin tag..
Just to be safe!
