Hmmm.... don't know if now that the loud clicking sound is gone I am just noticing this sound or what?


This is a faint, high-pitched sound while accelerating up a very steep hill. Which I must do to get home.


The sound is not a "screech". It equates in tone and pitch exactly with the sound of a turn signal being inadvertently left on. Right in that very tone range. But instead of being intermittent, like the sound for when a turn signal has remained on, it is a steady sound and it is definitely related to accerlerating the car. (If I let off the gas on the uphill, it stops.) It is not very loud, but it is there.


Any ideas?

First I would check the tranny fluid, make sure it is proper color and no burnt smell, and at the correct level

It sounds like it is emitting from the drivetrain in some way or another, so could be axles, cv joints or transmission itself

 

Oh no, not again! Donna, I've had a similar sound (kind of a hum) in my '00 SS for over 5 years now. The pitch gets higher as RPMs increase, and it's on the flat as well as hills. Never have found it, mechanics couldn't either, but nothing's blown up yet. Keep us posted.

 

I have the same thing. 103000. front hubs? They went on my impala at 150000 and sang for years before they went.
