Default no heat

My friend has an '04 monte and he wants me to take a look at it. He currently has the cluster problem... speedo not reading correctly and other gauges. It only has cluster problems when it is below 32 deg. At the same time the cluster fails to work properly, he gets very little heat. The t-stat has been replaced several times. When the temps are higher he has plenty of heat. Anybody have these symptoms?

Steve

Welcome to MCF Steve!!

Never heard of the problem related to temperature (32 degrees). The clusters are a known problem but this is the first time I've heard it in conjunction with the vehicles heating. I don't think that either components share the same electrical at all like the ecm or bcm.

I'll take a look at this in my Helm manual at halftime. Colts - Chargers game coming on soon.

when its cold my speedo sticks at 55mph and wont unfreeze till i hit 80 or 30. as far as the heat sounds like maybe his coolant mix isnt proper and might be partially freezing? i doupt thats the prob but its all i can think of right now

The only thing I can come up with is the flap that directs air through or around the heater core. Maybe when it is cold, a bad connection won't allow the flap to move all the way and poor heat.
