Default No heat

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo and my heat won’t work. I can hear the blower motor running. When I turn the switch to increase or decrease airflow all the way off I can hear the blower motor shut off and I can hear it come on when I turn the switch back on. No air comes out of my vents even if it is on full blast. The only air that comes out is the the tiny bit of air that comes out of the vents even when you have the heat or ac off (which I know is normal for vehicles). The air will change temperature when I swictch from heat to ac but will not blow out at any speed. Help! I need heat

I think your problem is one of two things.

1. Bad blower motor resistor. This controls the blower motor speed, and when they fail the blower motor will run on one or two speed settings or not at all.

2. You may have a broken vacuum line in the engine compartment. Not sure about this since I think they changed from vacuum to electric HVAC controls in '04, but see if you have a vacuum line running down the passenger side strut tower as shown in the pics in this thread: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/mo...k-tower-57414/.

last night I went to autozone and the guy got under where the blower motor and resistor are and messed with the resistor and it came back on. Shortly after that I drove down the road and it shut off again. It was off and on. This morning when I went to work it was off again so I got down there as messed with it and it again came back on for about a mile and a half and stopped again. Before, probably 8 months ago it would turn off or on again when I hit a bump, shut the door too hard, or hit the dash.I can fix it myself if it’s the resistor, do you still think that’s what it could be? Hopefully... it’s too cold not to have heat! Thanks

I think it's the resistor, or a bad wire or connector to it. It helps to be small and limber on this one, which I'm not...LOL. Quite the contortionist act. I will say it helps to take out the passenger seat and lay on your back with pillows under you. Rockauto sells a new ACDelco resistor for about $27.00. Considering what a PIB they are to get to I would recommend replacing the resistor whether it's bad or not since they do fail fairly commonly.
