Default No A/C,system might be clogged?

I put this off for a while, but when I went to charge the A/C,no cold air came out,and it barely took the whole can. The compressor works fine. The mechanic said that the line might be clogged. I've never heard of such a thing. Is it possible, and what's the remedy?

Does the cars temp still fluctuate like normal? My wife had the same issue her ac stopped working. I was going to recharge it until I noticed her temp gauge was always on cold. Switched out the tstat and ac was blowing nice and cold again

It is possible the expansion valve or orifice tube is clogged, they screens in them, but that usually happens after a compressor failure. If the compressor was replaced in the past the system should have been flushed, expansion valve, orifice tube and accumilator should have been replaced. If not, the refrigerant gets contaminated and clogs parts. Are you sure the compressor clutch is working? Also adding refrigerant in a can is not a good way to recharge. It leaves air in the system, so the charge you see on the gauge of the can is reading pressure which could be mostly air. If refrigerant gets low it probably leaked out someplace.
