New SS owner
Hi all, I thought I would introduce myself. My name's Elijah, I'm 25, and am in the U.S. Air Force. I traded in my 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 and I bought a 2006 Monte Carlo SS last week with 43k miles on the odo. I named the car Athena. My first car in high school was a 1986 Monte Carlo SS, so owning one again is very sentimental to me.
That being said, I had a couple questions that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.
What kind of oil does this engine like? I've always used Pennzoil Platinum, but if this car likes something else, please let me know.
It's been in the low/mid 20's outside and the rear suspension is squeaking, is this because of the cold and is it normal?
Any input on gasoline grade/brand? My options are pretty limited to either Phillips 66 or Shell.
Any bugs with the car that I should be aware of/recalls/or anything else like that. I'm just looking for some info on it. The dealership didn't have an owners manual when they sold the car to me and they said they would be mailing me one, so I figure I'll see it in a couple months.
Besides that, so far I love the car. It's silver, black leather interior, heated seat, remote start, the whole shebang. Only thing it doesn't have is a sun roof.
Again, thanks for any helpful information and I'm glad to be part of the SS community again.

to the forum! You are pretty good to put whatever oil you want. A lot of members use synthetic (mobil 1).
Gas wise, just make sure you are putting in 91/93 octane.
The biggest problem is going to be the transmission. The 4t65e-hd in the car is pretty weak at 300HP. Some are very lucky, some aren't.
Welcome to the forum! Great place to be. Pretty much what Chibi says holds true. A lot of people 'in cold weather' may notice that the fuel pump knocks 5 times after warming up. I freaked out about this last year, but I found out that it's normal for these cars. Something about de-icing... Most of the LS series engines will tick in cold weather also. Nothing to worry about. Good luck!
Welcome to the forum. The only things that come to mind are a recall issue with one of the power steering hoses, it's a common problem with the engine to use about a qt. of oil, but that's a whole other issue that there are gobbs of threads about on here. Else you should be good to go...if ya got any more ?'s -- just ask
