Default Need to Pull Heater Core Box from junkyard!

Hey, I have a 6th Gen 2004 Monte Carlo SS non supercharged. I am in need of a Heater Box( the box that holds the heater core as well as the blower motor). In which cars can I get that assembly from from the junk yard.

I pulled one from a 2001 Impala and it was too small. I was told 07 impalas have them as well as the 06
and 07 Monte Carlos and are interchangeable with my 04 MC but I’m not sure. If someone could give me a list of cars that have interchangeable Heater Core boxes that will fit into my 2004 Monte Carlo SS it would be greatly appreciated… like are 2001 Monte Carlo Heater Boxes interchangeable with 2004? You would think that they would be but the junk yard didn’t put that car in the list of Boxes that fit my 04 MC. As I stated before, they only put 06 - 09 Impalas and 04 - 07 Monte Carlo’s as well as other cars.

Also does the Monte Carlo having a 3400 Engine Vs a 3800 Engine have any effect on the Heater Box type or size?

I need to know so that I don’t keep wasting time pulling them from the wrong cars as this is not an easy pull. Thanks

This is probably a difficult item to get a proper interchange (you may have to check with a GM Parts Dealer). I know in the 00-05 Monte, GM changed the HVAC system (it went from vacuum control to eventually all electronic). I don't know when they made that switch, but that will be one issue to figuring out the interchange. I am guessing 04-05 Montes are compatible. Maybe the 03 as well (hard to say for certain). As much as the Monte and Impala are identical, I honestly don't know if this unit is the same between them.

I appreciate the feedback. So you’re saying that my best bet would be to just get one from an 04-05 Monte Carlo? Would that have to be a 3800 like mines or would a base model 3400 have the same HVAC system as my 04 SS?

I went to GM Parts Giant.com and looked up the 04 Monte / 05 Monte. They both have the exact same parts number for heater core, heater case, upper, lower etc. You should look at parts there, new and really cheap imo. New heater core $100, not bad for new, normally $237. Also I checked and my 02 heater core numbers are not the same as yours, 00-03 are the same. 04 / 05 / 06 / 07 all same heater cores. Looks like the 04 / 05 have a different heater case than the 06 / 07 Montes. So I would stay in the 04 / 05 Montes. I see no discerning between the 3.4 & 3.8 heater cores, so bet you are very safe pulling it from a 3.4 if need be.
