Default need help, this was in tranny pan

I have no idea what this is but I drained the transmission fluid, pulled the pan and this was sitting there in the pan. The gasket is intact and complete. I am attempting to replace the shift solenoids because of how it shifts, mechanic's charged me $115 to tell me I have no codes and I should take it to a transmission shop. They have no idea.. I pretty sure both solenoids are bad.. but now this, could this be something related to my shifting issues? It is about 2" long and very brittle.. TIA

Ok so I was told from one of the local shops, its part of the thrust washer that has broken. Which means it's looking at a total rebuild.. yeh me..
