Mystery Problem - Help!
For the past two weeks or so my 95 Monte has almost died on me numerous times, only after sitting at a stop light or stop sign for more than 30 seconds. After that, I will have to really have to work hard to push on the gas and get her movin. It's almost like it wants to die on me, but decides it doesn't want to commit suicide after all. After shes over 1000 RPM's then its cake. Nothings wrong. And occasionally the screen in my car powers off, but not the lights or anything else electrical. So I had the battery checked, was fine, but it was stripped out on the inside so the bolts wouldnt stay in very well, so I replaced the battery today, hoping it would go back to normal, but after about the third time I started it up and ran errands - BOOM. Back to the same ol' thing. My only other idea is the fuel filter, but that doesn't explain the screen powering down then coming back on. And a time or two it felt like it downshifted while it was in 2nd gear but then jumped up again and took off, Has anyone else experienced this before? Or know what to do? Knowing my luck it has a real simple solution, and I'm to dumb to realize it. Tomorrow I'm going to put a new fuel filter in it, hope it works.
Put new fuel filter in - good thing I changed it - it was pretty gross...but that didnt seem to be the problem. It died on me once after I started it in a parking lot and sat there for a minute and then I restarted it and it didnt want to go but stayed alive, then as I was driving home it almost died while I was going 50 mph and the needles started to shake but I stepped on the gas some and didnt have anymore problems on the way home. I just filled up so I know its not running out of gas either.
...Hi Jess,Sorry to read that you are having problems with your Monte

I agree with `Justin
, it sounds like it could be a fuel pump going bad...How many miles on your Monte ? If the filter was gross, you could have got a bad tank of gas...It happens when a station's tank is low & their pump picks up debris from the bottom of their tanks, or your pump is just tired & ready to stop pump'in : ( Worth the check...Good Luck 4-Sure

My friend and I got it figured out. Hopefully. It's been running great since. I think it was a combination of bad gas & the connection to the fuse box for the ignition stuff & ABS which explains why the anti lock breaks light would be on sometimes. sorta knew it would be a simple solution. But now its got a good tank of gas in it, a new fuel filter and a new battery. Systems all go. Oh and Kidspace - Its got 140,000 miles.
