Fixed some leaks - new valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, and trans pan gasket. Unless he tossed some extra parts down the intake, I'm not sure the two are related!

Rumor has it I will be seeing the Monte again with a replacement motor. More to come, but it looks like high oil pressure was the culprit that killed it. Oil filter bloated and failed along with a seal. I still haven't seen it, but I plan to get the bad motor back so I can do some forensics on it myself. Of course now I have one car too many since I had to replace the Monte quickly since it was my daily driver!

High oil pressure wears the surface material of the bearing at an accelerated rate. Once the surface material is gone excessive friction is present and the bearing can displace material leading to failure.

As Jerry said, keep us updated and let us know what you find out.

Default Got the Monte and my engine back!

So I picked up the Monte (with it's "new" used L67) along with my previous L67 today. I talked to the mechanic while we were loading the engine into my Silverado. He confirmed my first thought when this happened - spun bearing. There was no thrown rod as I had been hearing, but didn't really believe. High oil pressure actually blew out the NAPA Gold oil filter (~3k miles on that and the Mobil 1 oil that was in it). The only guess is something went wrong with the valve cover gasket replacement. It's really sad because that motor only had ~72K miles on it. So now I have an extra L67 and an extra car since I had to buy something to get me to and from work while this was all being resolved. Guess I have to decide what I'm going to do with the garage full of gear! I even snapped a couple of pics of the motor, which is still in the back of my truck until I get some help unloading it. I'm in NJ if there are any volunteers!
