Default More Hp for the buck

Hi im new here, so bare with me lol. I just recently got a 2002 monte carlo ss le. It is completely stock except for the airfilter but i was wondering what were some cheap mods that would add performance that are under a grand but are reliable as well. Thanks for any replies.

Hi `Buddy, and welcome to the MCF
Please explore the forum, and use the forums search engine
for questions you have about your Monte Carlo SS.
Since you already have a K&N filter to help your Monte
breath, I would suggest looking into exhaust upgrade to help
your Monte Exhale : )
There are several posts on the Monte's U-Bend Delete
from your exhaust system. I'm sure one of our member's
that have done this will post. Or gain, use our search engine
to explore.
Oh, if you can, please post pictures of your Monte Carlo : )
We all love look'in @ Monte Carlo's.
We hope that you enjoy the forum, and look forward
to your future posts.
Wish you good luck with your Monte Carlo.

By filter, do you mean a drop in replacement, or a complete cold air intake system. A drop in won't do much, but a complete CAI will help, along with the U-bend delete pipe. Those are THE 2 mods that SHOULD be done. NOTHING will help as much as those 2 items, and they need to be done before ANYTHING else is done!
Also, make sure your cat' is working properly, as they are REAL problems in these cars, and has had the warranty extended to 100,000 miles because of problems. Best thing there, in my opinion, is to just put in a high flow unit and a O2 sim' to replace everything.

To BigBud:I currently only have the zzp downpipe, and a K&N CAI, and I was amazed by the difference.

To I bought another PCM that I plan to send into ZZP after Christmas, and hopefully I'll have the cash for the HV3 insert, which I've heard good things about. I was curious about the 1.8 rockers. I first am not sure of the stock ratio, but how does the engine adjust fuel input with a larger valve opening time. Does it notice a lower vacuum signal and therefore increase fuel? I think understanding this would probably help make a choice on cam & rockers vs. rockers only.

Not to try to pull it off topic...

Thanks!
