Default Monte Carlo doesn't turn off

Okay, so for the past week or so, I've noticed that when I shut my car off, it doesn't kill the electronics when I open the door like it normally does. The electronics and dash will still run, with the keys in my hand and my door open. It took me several attempts today to get it shut off again.

I was curious if anybody has also experienced this issue, or has an idea of what the cause is? It's got me worried that I'm gonna walk out and see my car in flames (ironic, since my firefighting gear is in there). So, throw me some ideas to research lol

'06 Monte Carlo LT incase that matters.

there is a sensor that reads when the door opens and closes to turn on dome lights etc. im willing to bet when you open the door and the dash stuff dont turn off the dome light doesnt come on either?

either way i dont see this burning the car down and the car will time itself out after 10mins i believe and turn everything off

I'm having the exact same issue.

Turbo Monte, where exactly is the sensor located?

not the same exact issues, but some crazy issues on wifes 03 cav were solved by getting a VIN cut key. Amazing how a car that was told it need fuel pump or new ignition is all good via a $30 key, I am a believer, if your key is sloppy, loose, or stubborn in the key way get a dealer key you may be surprised

I have the same problem sporadically, and I have a factory key.

Any other ideas?

May just need a new key cut at the dealer.

Push the shifter up as it is not fully engaging in park.

I had the same exact problem. It ended up being the ignition switch in the dash. It is pretty easy to replace and the part was 20$ off of eBay. Also check the harness that goes into the shifter at the floor. If one of those wires is short or intermittent broken you can get the same symptoms.

Of course, the ignition switch for the 06 isn't IN the dash, and therefore it won't be "easy to replace" if the issue is the ignition switch...

Anyone else?
