Hey everyone, I got a 2004 SS. Is there a light or message that comes on to tell you when you need an oil change. My wife has an 03 Monte LS and her car has this feature. So i'm thinking mind does to. But i've put over 5,000 miles on car with no message. Changing the oil anyways but was wondering if my car had this feature. I believe it might and it's just not working.

Any thoughts helpful, Thanks.

yes, it comes up on your dash board, where it says message center...then you have to reset it on the factory deck when you change it...

but yes it does come up

whenever i buy a vehicle though i change ALL the fluids just to make sure they've all been changed recently..that way nothing happens..just another safety procaution

yeah i do the same as Whiz. i changed my oil on mine with in the first week. I will normally put like 3-400 miles on it befor i change it so it can get any shavings etc... out of the motor and tranny
Also had the tranny filter changed then to.

But i knew i wanted to change the oil over to full synthetic opil and this is when i took that opertunity to do so.

welcome to our end of the monte world.

How many miles do you drive a day. What type of driving do you do
Short trip/long trips
This all plays the part when the message for an oil change will come up

GM does not use the 3000 mile game.....

The computer in the car will let you know when it needs to be changed by how you drive your car....

Yeah, GM recommends to follow the message center if you do alot of highway miles, but if you make short trips, tow, drive in dusty conditions or a half dozen other things, you should change it at 3000.

Best thing to do is check your owners manual, but my 04 manual tells me the above.

so me spinning tires all the time and doing 100+ on I-410 and also doing all of this in 90 or above heat.
and i drive ruffly 50miles per day.

i think i make it in to the mild driving conditions /

but i might be wrong. think if i would do a longer burn out to warm the motor i might get in to the extream conditions.

Thanks everyone, i drive about 75 miles per day. mostly all highway. Bought the car from the dealer and was GM certified,so i figured they had changed the oil. Even the dealer didn't know for sure if my car had this feature? Getting oil changed next week.

Thanks for the help.
