Default ls4 or l67?

ive been wanting a faster car to take to the local track and to fool around with in the streets but my 2001 LS MC isnt really cutting it anymore. after reading this https://montecarloforum.com/forum/si...per-ls4-26283/ i couldnt stop thinking about doing this to my car. but what worries me is all the bad reviews of the transmission. it got me thinking an l67 swap would be a safer bet. any suggestions?

Well the l67 can easily be faster than the ls4, and will be a more direct swap, not to mention cheaper.

The ls4 is different though, and will sound a lot better. But has only a small aftermarket.

Thats another thing i was curious about. what would need to be done to get the l67 faster then the ls4. because i would much rather do the extra work and have a more reliable car.

Somebody sells a turbo kit for the LS4, that'd have you in low 13's easy

if you're going to put the $ into buying an LS4 and a turbo kit (google: cartuning.com, they make a turbo), you're definitely going to be upgrading the trans anyways. the 4t65e-HD that is stock with the LS4 in the 7th gen monte's wouldn't be able to handle the extra torque/hp without being upgraded. there was a post on this forum a while back that had a link to a site where they rebuild these transmissions with everything that you would need (hardened shafts, shift kits, etc etc..).

That would allow you to have that LS4 and not tear your trans apart. That is, unless you go the L67 way and in that case, you'll still need an upgraded trans lol

Even if you just go LS4 youre going to need to do quite a bit of work to the trans to get it to be reliable / last.

This is just a shot in the dark but im going to guess at least half of all LS4 owners have tranny problems lol.

L67 came in our generation, the LS4 didn't. Therefore putting the L67 will be a much easier swap.

Your best bet? Honestly. Sell your car and buy an L67 powered car.

If you are worried about the transmissions though, you shouldn't be modifying these things lol.

that would be awesome lol

to get the l67 faster a cam/headers/intercooler and small supporting mods would make an ls4 look like its standing still
