Default LS4 Engine Tap

We just took a recent trip up north. The car was great allred the way around. After about 1,500 miles I used a quart of oil, okay not bad at all. I added a quart in Connecticut, drove to NJ, abou 150 miles. Next day I started the car and heard a tapping. It was coming from the back bank, sounded like from the valve train not really sure. Checked oil again and it was down a quart. Where did the quart go? I added another quart, tap went away. Got back home to Florida on Sunday, changed oil I use Mobile 1 0w30w. Haven't used car till today, tap back again??? WTF.. Anybody run into this at all? I really dont want to get rid of the car, but if this is going to be a major problem... Bye bye Monte... HELP!

Oil consumption is a common issue on LS4's. AFAIK, the dealership has a TSB about it and ways to correct it. There should be more info if you google search for it.

As far as the noise- lifter tick is relatively common on LS engines, is it possible that is what it could be?

agreed. oil consumption is an issue with dod. tapping is a normal noise with the ls motors. mine only does its from time to time on cold start up. ive also heard of people having lifters collapse. i would check in with the dealer on the oil consumption tsb, and go from there.
