low break fluid problem?
hey guys... Ive recently been having some problems with my 3.4, shes acting up since its been getting cold, but, I thought maybe it would start acting normal after the engine warms up a bit... no luck. when I do 1/3+ throttle from start, "low brake fluid" comes on and I lose my traction control (plus my brake indiactor on the dash). after I let off the gas, anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or two the light go away except the traction control (which, I wont get back till I turn off my car and turn it back on). any idea's or tests you think would help here?
well, why its throwing me for a loop is because it never comes on when I hit the brakes... it does it when I hit the gas! Ill be checking for leaks under my car since it was snowing so I should see pretty easy now) and I'll check the res. on a little nicer day (-1* right now + wind chill). curious, the brakes have no driving issue's (metal squeaking when braking, rubbing, ect)... is it a good chance maybe a messed up sensor? I mean, this would be a chance I could try corvette brakes... :P
Hi `Mike,
First check your brake fluid level on a flat surface. It is likely that the problem is actually a sensor that has gone bad. This is a common problem for Chevy. But the light is a safety light, so it would be wise for you tohave it checked..The dealer shouldknow what sensors normally go bad. The problem is that starting in '92, Anti-Lock Brakes are controled electronically, so if there is a problem with the sensor. Same for the traction control. I'd say you could change the sensors yourself, if you can get under there with a ratchet. It would be worth it, if it fixes the problem. Try calling your dealer and telling them what's going on. They might know right off handwhat sensors are the problem.
Its possible that your brake fluid level in the reservoir is right at the threshold where thefluid levelsensor is about to turn on the light and when you accelerate the fluid moves in the reservoir enough to trigger the sensor. Its possible for this to occur on accel and not decel.
I am having the exact same problem on my 03 SS. ANyone know where the sensor that controls this is located? Fluid seems and tests full, Pads look good all the way around. There is no evident reason for this to be happening.
