Default Knock/Thud in front end of '05 LT

I've been noticing a knock/thud noise from the front end. Typically this is during lowspeed braking and cornering.

I've read that it can be either the CV halfshaft or a wheel bearing.

I've replaced wheelbearings on my blazer in the past, and the symptoms arent the same with the Monte Carlo, there is no humm or whine at speed.

What should I look for in damaged components to determine what to replace?

If you pop your hood and bounce the car when it's parked, can you mimic the noise?

It could prove if it's a suspension part that he can only hear at lower speeds.

I cannot replicate the sound by bouncing the front end of the car.

Ok, this may seem wierd, but this is sounds similar to a problem my sisters 99 Toyota Solora was having.

When you would go around a corner, or make a u turn, it would make a thumping noise. I had both front wheels off, and could not for the life of me figure out what was wrong. As i was getting ready to give up, and put the wheels back on, bingo, found the problem. One of her tires had a bulge in the tread (very close to blowing). So a new tire fixed the problem. Are you positive your front tires are in good shape?

It does not sound like a wheel bearing to me. When a wheel bearing on the Bonneville went out it made a whine at higher speeds.

CV shaft/ boot?

mid shaft it ballences the right drive axle mine did it and when i looked at it when it was on ramps it was messed up as in twisted and hampering the half shaft. replaced that it cured it. if you hear a screaching clicking sound. it should be your rack and pinion going bad mine did that last week and ended up replacing it because it blew bothends sending out meatel shards when pulling in to my drive way.and replaced the front tires. check the collor of the power sterring fluid if it feels a little heave on meatle grit like mine did it is time to replace it it is 1200 for a shop to replace it. do it your self is about 700 parts and fluid
