I have an 02 LS and about june 2007 I had to replace the ignition cyl.-tumblers broke. that was about 70,000 miles on the car. now at 84,000 miles and 2 and 1/2 years later the same problem. I had a gm tech help me on the first one and had about $150 in the repair. this time had it towed to gm and $450 later I get a 1 year warranty. I was wondering how common this problem is and maybe a tech or someone would put a sticky in the how to section on the passlock relearn procedure. I doubt there is a tsb on this but I have heard this cylinder breaking happens a lot. thanks for any info.

Here is the official GM passlock relearn procedure:
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
2. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF.
3. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
Turn key to START, sometime your car will start after only one relearn. If so, you're done. If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 two more times (for a total of 3 relearns). At that point, the vehicle will be ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to START.
Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

thanks for the info monty02ss I printed that out for the next time. rockin04ss where did you buy the cylinder and passlock from. the best price I found was $150 from gmpartsdirect. I needed to get it fixed right away so the local gm dealer said $300 plus tax on the phone and when I went to pick it up became $450. I sent an e-mail to gm thru my owners page at gm and a few phone calls later gm is sending me a $100 service voucher for future use. still feel kinda sick at paying that much for a part I just replaced 2 1/2 years ago
