6th Gen ('00-'05): Key won’t turn in the ignition
Ok. So i installed a new switch from Rock Auto specifically for a 2005.
Went thru the key relearn process, and nothing. Security light never goes off.
My understood that the cylinder contains the security chip, so would the key make any difference? As I’ve stated, I installed the cylinder from my parts car into the new switch and used the key for that cylinder.

In theory 10-13 minutes "should do it", but I believe 15 is what is recommended. Just for grins, go the long game, go for 20 minutes to see if the security light finally goes out. All instructions and times I have done a re-learn, you do NOT cycle the key until the security light or message stops displaying, otherwise you did not complete a cycle. I have done this on Montes, Grand Prixs, Impalas, LeSabres, some some differ just a tiny bit, but that light is important with each of them.
As for the BCM, I don't have a good way to explain that. Usually you end up with weird codes or behavior. But to properly replace a BCM, you need access to a GM TechII scan tool to program it. If you are to that point, I would probably contact a local dealership to see if they can fix this issue (they will have all the proper tools and access to all GM's service information).

So I tried the relearning process again today. Waited for over 25 minutes but the security light never went off. Pulled out the cylinder and inspected the prongs on the chip and found that they were bent upwards a little. Must’ve happened when I removed the entire assembly from my donor car. I ordered a new replacement cylinder today from Rock Auto. Hopefully this will do the trick.
