I cannot say 100%, but I am fairly positive those parts are all the same.

Well, I’ll find out in a few days. Ordered a new switch from Rock Auto. 🫰

Ok. So i installed a new switch from Rock Auto specifically for a 2005.
Went thru the key relearn process, and nothing. Security light never goes off.

My understood that the cylinder contains the security chip, so would the key make any difference? As I’ve stated, I installed the cylinder from my parts car into the new switch and used the key for that cylinder.

spamdaddy. Just use a mobile locksmith or speedshop. Problem solved. Unless you can find the correct security code and a scanner that can use it.
Good luck.

You are correct the chip is part of the lock cylinder. The key is just a piece of cut metal, nothing special. How long did you wait for the security light? I believe it can take 10-15 minutes. If it is not going off, then something else is not right. Perhaps the key is worn and not properly triggering the chip in the lock cylinder but able to turn the key.

I waited from 10-13 minutes with 5-30 seconds in between cycles. The key and cylinder from the 03 donor car are in good condition.

How could I determine if the BCM has gone bad?

In theory 10-13 minutes "should do it", but I believe 15 is what is recommended. Just for grins, go the long game, go for 20 minutes to see if the security light finally goes out. All instructions and times I have done a re-learn, you do NOT cycle the key until the security light or message stops displaying, otherwise you did not complete a cycle. I have done this on Montes, Grand Prixs, Impalas, LeSabres, some some differ just a tiny bit, but that light is important with each of them.

As for the BCM, I don't have a good way to explain that. Usually you end up with weird codes or behavior. But to properly replace a BCM, you need access to a GM TechII scan tool to program it. If you are to that point, I would probably contact a local dealership to see if they can fix this issue (they will have all the proper tools and access to all GM's service information).

Thanks for the info. I’ll try again and go as long as it takes. 👍

So I tried the relearning process again today. Waited for over 25 minutes but the security light never went off. Pulled out the cylinder and inspected the prongs on the chip and found that they were bent upwards a little. Must’ve happened when I removed the entire assembly from my donor car. I ordered a new replacement cylinder today from Rock Auto. Hopefully this will do the trick.

That explains why the message did not go out. But couldn't you bend them back and retry?
