Default Just bought 06 Monte LS

We just bought a 2006 Monte LS with 40,000 on it and brand new RSA,s on all 4 corners. Looks brand new. It has the 3.5L and Im wondering if this engine has the gasket problems like the previous 3.1, 3.4 and 3.8? I also have a 2001 Monte LS with the 3.4l that is starting to leak oil at the lower intake gasket. This car has 103,000 and runs great. I,ll probably do the gasket before winter.

welcome! the 3.5 is basically the 3.4 with improved intake manifolds, i do believe the gasket issues were fixed tho, just flush the coolant and replace the stock gm coolant

The only issue I have heard of with those engines is the thermostat failing. It's not as easy to fix in those. but that's a lot better than the LIMs going bad lol

Thanks all!

So is the coolant the reason the gaskets failed? Do alot of members change out the dextron for the what other coolant?

So I have had a 1999 Z34 black traded it in for a mini van...boo, but had to family got bigger. The 10 yrs later I bought a 1977 monte black with 27,000 original miles one owner mint totally loaded AC,moonroof, swivel buckets 350 4 barrel. Had it for 2yrs, then sold it. I didnt drive it enough I was worried about parking it anywhere. Then bought a 2001 monte ls for my daughter. Now my fiance and I have a 2006. I guess I must like my Monte's or they find me...lol

We also have a 2005 trailblazer with 118,500 that I have been fixing normal wear and tear items. If anyone else has a trailblazer here Trailvoy is a great forum.

with the thermostat failing you just have to remove the intake and throttle body and it's there, kind of a pain tho
