ISS REPAIR

RE: ISS REPAIR
I think Mickey mentioned the grease fitting idea a while back. Seems like it would be pretty easy to drill and tap a hole but I have no idea where the darn thing even is. Anyone have some pics of this ISS??

RE: ISS REPAIR
I suppose you could put a fitting in it, but I don't think it would do any good. When you re-grease the shaft, you have to plug one end of it and compress the shaft a few times to make sure the grease gets spread through it evenly. It's kind of hard to explain, but I don't have any pictures to help with it. As for the location, it is between your rack and pinion and steering column. It is the part that actually goes through the firewall. I recently greased mine and didn't take any pictures. I'm not anticipating doing it again soon, but if I should have to I'll take pictures next time.
Edit- After posting this I did a search on google and found this walkthrough I'm sure others here will find helpful. The pictures are pretty decent too.

RE: ISS REPAIR
i mentioned it but have not done it. but talking to the dealer he was saying the new impalas now have a rubber stopper there to allow it to hold grease better and also to stop the rattel in it when the grease is low.
might be worth finding out if we could do something like this but who knows.
