Default Intermediate Steering Shaft

My car is in need of having the intermediate steering shaft re-lubed. I have a write up on how to do this myself, however my only question is how much grease needs to be use to do this. My intention is to use Marine Grade Grease instead of the standard GM kit. I just need to know how much to use, so I don't over do it. Thanks!

i dont know what the optimal amount would be, but you cant really over do it. with a gm kit after the grease is forced through there is even a little excess that i'll wipe off with the shaft colapesed, use too much and there would just be a lil more excess...

why not use gm's kit though? where do you find a rubber plug that works as well as gm's?

Hey dude, great questions. I have decided to use the GM kit, this time around, to 1. see if the Grease "injection" is reuseable, and 2. get the cork. Either wayI fix the problem with the GM kit, and next time around I'll use the higher grade Marine Grease, which should solve the problem for a longer period.

Does that have a fitting system? If it does, then you can't really over due it, the grease will just squirt out a bit and just wipe it off with a rag.

no fitting, with the shaft fully expanded grease is added to the end of the section of shaft that slides over the other section, stick the plug in the hole and collapse the shaft, the grease is forced through between the 2 sections of the shaft this way, lubing inbetween the 2 parts of the shaft.

Now I just want to be 100% sure that I am actually having a ISS issue. It does NOT make a clicking noise or anything of the sort. But every time I turn and accelerate or decelerate I canFEEL a clicking in the steering wheel. Is that a good chance that is the problem or are there other issues I should be looking at?

Thanks a bunch!

My car has started to do that and the dealer who has already replaced the ISS once is telling me it is not the ISS this time.

But he can't find the problem. I bet the ISS needs lubing.

How much milage do you have grandpa? I have 35,000kms and havent seen the issue. Yet. My malibu had it. Sounded like someone was hammering on the footwell with a 5 lb sledge. That involved an ISS and the entire rack. That malibu was terrible..
