Default instrument panel lights don't work during the day

2002 Monte Carlo LS My instrument panel lights have stopped working during the day. They work fine when it is dark. Everything works in the dark, even the adjustable dimmer on the headlight switch. However as soon as you get in the sunshine and the daytime running lights come on everything turns off. I have checked everything I can figure. I am not sure where they get their power from during the day. The only thing that works as it should is the radio. It is bright during the day and adjustable at night. Suggestions please?

2002 monte the dash lights do not work during the day, but work fine at night. The only dash light I have during the day is the radio. Any suggestions would be nice. I've checked all I can think of.

Most of the cars have a little adjusting wheel for brightness or darkness on the dash near the light switch. You might check to see if that is adjusted properly.

Thanks, but I tried it, and it only appears to work when the head lights are on. Nothing during the day.

It might be me, but I don't recall the back lighting on the instrument panel being active during the day.

I am not sure of it either, but I now find the instruments hard to read during the day and I don't ever remember this being a problem in the past. Stuff I read tells me they should be lit, but I can't find the information on the wiring diagrams.

Maybe the DRL have been disabled. . your light switch should be set for automatic on.

My car does not have that switch, also the DRL are working fine. I am beginning to think the instrument lights just do not come on during the day and the gauges are just hard to read during the daylight. I may be trying to fix something that is not there. I wish I knew someone who owned a monte and I could look at their gauges and see if they are back lit.

Unfortunately my Montes (2000 and 2004) are both tucked in for winter. But I am 99% certain the back lights are NOT active unless the actual head lights (low or high beams) are on. During the day, I am certain there is no back light.

Thanks, maybe that is why I don't see mine now. You would think after owning this car for 23 years I would know that, but for some reason they started looking dark to me.
