I installed the transgo shift kit and cleaned out the underneath of the pan. I also tipped it on its side and drained it out of the fill hole. I didn't even get a chance to check the fluid level. Any truth to the horror stories about destroying the pump?

I'm assuming it is a new converter, since it required all that fluid. A newer converter can certainly make 'different sounds' that the old one. If you've ever replaced a PS pump, you will know what I mean. Takes a little effort to get the oil in and all that air out.

Thanks for the post. I am about to install engine and tranny together to put into my 77, something I have never done and did not know about putting fluid into the torque converter beforehand or using that much fluid! Also didn't know to connect torque converter to flex plate after connecting tranny to engine! Wow! What a lifesaver!

Well, the downside to this post is that the squealing is back. Only when warmed up, only in idle. Fluid level is hard to read on the stick because it's brand new. I wipe it off, put it in, pull it out, and its all over the stick. Probably going to separate the engine/trans and reseat torque converter.

Sorry for polluting on someone else's thread here but I'm hoping I don't have a serious problem and was wondering if I could get some guidance. So I'll begin with my issue, my Monte whines while off the throttle no matter what speed you are going all the way down to 35/40 mph, then it's less noticeable or not there. I did just have my Trans rebuilt very recently, upgraded heavy duty torque converter, rebuild kit with the "red" relplacement clutches, trans-go shift kit, and since my old one actually went completely I did have a few hard parts replaced. The person who rebuilt my trans knows very well what they are doing, has been doing this for 30 years plus, rebuilds street cars, everyday drivers, as well as custom builds for people of his choosing for their drag or muscle cars, so I have no trust issues with the person who did it.

Bottom line, I'm just trying to figure out if maybe it's just because of the gears being new and everything being tight or if I have a serious potential problem, or if it's even related to the trans at all (maybe supercharger, I know I'm reaching lol). I searched other threads, but this one seemed on topic with trans, fluid, and whine. Figured if nothing else I could get pointed to a different thread I didn't see.
