Default Ignition cylinder replacement won't relearn passlock.

Hey all, did an Ignition cyliner replacement and ignition module too. Rekeyed the new cylinder, it turned fine. Put everything in the monte. Unfortunately, after trying to reprogram 3x * 12 minutes for the security system the car then try to start but it won't start, goes to ACC but the pump and starter won't go. Tried a 2nd set of 3x 12 (add a bit of extra time just in case) but no luck again. I hate to keep trying and running down the battery, i have been putting the lights into parking so the headlights aren't on.

Tried using the original ignition module with the new cylinder, 3x 12min for reprogramming, then try to start with the same result as above, won't start.

Any idea why it's not relearning the new code? I'd hate to have to tow it to a dealship to have them look it over and it be a simple fix.

did you clear any trouble codes on the car? 1st step

battery must be strong and fully charged .

putting the lights in park may be messing up the process perhaps?

Finally was able to get it to work.

What I did was test out the ignition module with the old Ignition cylinder. -> started fine

Then tried the new Ignition cylinder's key insert in the old cylinder -> started fine

Thus the issue was with the new Ignition cylinder and likely the relearning process. A battery charger, disconnecting the headlights and trying the relearning method helped. However after the 4th On off cycle, it didn't start. I started again and on the second ON off, I tried the pump the gas 5x trick and then tried to start --> it worked.

I found it odd the typically security relearn process didn't work, but I was able to get it to start, hopefully my problem will be fixed should be a month or two of driving to see if I don't get anything odd happening since when it did happen it was rare.

When you say you replaced the "ignition module" do you mean the ignition switch housing, or the ignition control module?

I meant the ignition switch housing which the ignition cylinder fits into

I have read all these and tried everything suggested. There are no code. I also original replaced the fuel pump after the car would just die when coming to a stop. Replaced the fuel pump and the issue continued. Replaced 2 coil packs. Ignition module by the coil packs. I replaced the ER valve due to a code after replacing the ignition module. Started ran in driveway 30 minutes in driveway. Took it for a drive. Got 6 block away stalled coming to stop sign. Had to drag it home it would not start and has not since. That's when I replaced the ignition switch and key cylinder. Tried 3 x 10 min. On and off for 30 seconds. Tried unplugging the BCM fuse and tried to start several times. Nothing on either. I have repeated both 3 times each.

hey didn't mean for you to post here, just to try what I did. Didn't mean to sound harsh in my reply.

Just so we don't get confused
OFF -> ACC -> ON -> START

' = minute
s = second

What got mine to start was

Try to start
leave on ON 12' (security went from blinking to gone, only battery was left)
OFF 30s
ON 12' (security light for me never went away just stayed on switching with battery)
OFF 30s
ON 12'
OFF 30s
Tried to start (didn't start)
Off 30s
ON 12' pumped gas 5 times
Turn from ON to START (and it started)

By all accounts and reading it should have started after the 3rd time but did not. I consider myself lucky. If this fails, next time the car starts I'd do the security bypass then switch the cylinder and ignition switch housing.

Sorry I cannot be of more help, might just pay for the dealership to reset the security with the new equipment in it. Did you get the security light before or after it stalled? It may be the BCM going bad but it's a pricier fix, might want a scan to confirm it, in case this ignition cylinder and housing doesn't work.

The security light started flashing fter the installation of the new ignition switch and cylinder. I thank you for you reply. I will try it again tomorrow when I am home all day. Will try pumping the gas pedal 5 time this time.

yeah the security light will flash after the new cylinder since it has a new chip and thus a different voltage is output compared to the previous cylinder, whose value is stored in the BCM. You need to do a security re-learn

In related news my new ignition cylinder and ignition switch housing I still had all my dash shut off for a second then turn on afterwards during the middle of my drive today. It's not new, happened in the past. I was hoping this was going to solve this problem in addition to my security light (which was fixed.. so far)

Anybody have any ideas what may be going on with the dash issue?
