Ignition Cylinder Replacement
Has anyone replaced the Ignition cylinder themselves?
If so, did your SECURITY light come on and stay on once you were completed?
How did you fix this, reprogram, and how?
I have a '02 that passlock had been intermittently not allowing the car to star for about 3 years and I'm done!
I do not have programmable keys (no marks on the keys)
I replaced the ignition cylinder, had the new one re-keyed for my old keys, car starts fine but the security light in on steady continuously.
seems very easy to fix but I'm missing something any help is greatly appreciated

RE: Ignition Cylinder Replacement
try leaving the key turned on for 10minutes, or a bit more, hopefully at the 10minute mark the security light goes out, and stays out. i know thats how ya do it on N bodies anyway.... hopefully it works the same on a W body hmmm...this might also be for the PK3, passkey3 system, well its worth a try atleast.

RE: Ignition Cylinder Replacement
I think I finally broke the PASSLOCK Curse
I will be re-assembling my interior tomorrow and taking picture to post a good how-to
The dealer out here wanted 1000.00 to fix the "random failure to start issues".
It cost me an over-priced part 250.00 from the dealer (found it later on-line for 150.00)
40.00 to have a locksmith code it for me to use my original keys
So far about 1 hours to disassemble and remove the old ignition cylinder.
and about 45 minutes to allow the BCM to relearn the new passlock code.
Like a stated earlier I will post more info and picture once everything to back together but I know many others have had this problem and I think for very little time and about a forth of the dealer price I have figured out how to concure this pesky problem.

RE: Ignition Cylinder Replacement
I have the DEI Passlock 2 and I beleive this is who pretty much everyone uses for their alarms.
My intermittant problem was simply the wiring harness to the DEI box being loose. I reseeded it twice and never really gave it thought but the Security light popped up. I started ripping apart the interior andI just happend to look over at it and I sawa clip was out. My wiggling might have helped, but getting that clip secure fixed the whole problem.

$1000.00 to diagnose and repair an intermittent Passlock related no start? HOLY CRAP!! I am a Chevrolet dealer technician and I'm going to call those guys thieves. Last time I repaired one of these the GM list on the part was $192.00 (too much in my opinion) and 1 hour labor ($90.00 here). Most Passlock no starts are very intermittent, but if there is not a poorly installed remote start system causing the problemall you need to do is verify the integrity of the 3 Passlock circuits & their connections at the lock cylinder housing and the BCM. If that stuff looks good a Passlock sensor fixes them everytime.
