How do I test a BCM on a 1998 Z34?
My 98 Monte sounds like it has the symptoms of a bad BCS. But how do I test it or is this a mechanic only item?
Anyone have the cost associated with having this replaced and reprogrammed? The part is $146 for a new one from Rockauto but I don't have the tool to program it.
Thanks,
Ron B.

For my 2001 the dealer wanted 105 (one hour labor) to reprogram a bcm module. I did more troubleshooting on my own and found out the problem was actually the ignition switch and the bcm was fine. What problems are you having? You may want to look at the thread I updated recently. Your car is one generation older but maybe there is some info there that would be helpful.
Good Luck with it! It was a pain troubleshooting mine but it wound up saving me hundreds.

Jim,
The car was fine with never a problem. Then one morning it was dead. I didn't think it was the battery as it was only 6 months old. I took it to Advance Auto where I go the battery to have the alternator tested. It was fine but the battery was no good. They replaced it free. All was fine for 2 months then after my wife jump started another car in the parking lot. The next day it was dead. The battery has checked out fine as did the alt. if I jump it it starts but even if I charge it the battery dies in 48 hours. The interior lights also now reuse to turn off and the locks have a mind of heir own. I read this is classic BCM failure. I will check your recent thread but if you have any ideas let me know.
Thanks,
Ron B.

I'll be honest, I was thinking 5th gens don't have BCMs... But they do sell them in various places... It might be under the cowl, so I've read... I'd start with checking fuses and wiring.
