I'll be getting mine done before winter, gonna put in Royal Purple since I did the Royal Purple changeover yesterday for my oil.

So I've had my car for several years and bought it with high miles (172k exactly) and don't know if the transmission has ever been serviced. I have 245k miles now and it's starting to shift hard. Should I change the transmission fluid?

Yes, but don't let a shop hook it up to a flushing machine. Do a pan-drop, filter change, and put Dexron 6 in until it's full.

A transmission oil change these days will last you 100,000 miles with the newer synthetic oils. I had mine done with DexVI and made them change the filter as well, cost was $135; money well spent for years more of transmission longevity.
