I've had no trouble ordering parts from Rockauto, but checking the prices and reviews on Amazon has me tempted to buy from them. What has been your experience ordering parts?

Also, I just got the three volume, 2000 service manual off ebay. Once I read through it, if anyone needs shop info I'll try to help.

 

Once in a while I order stuff from Amazon. I would stick with known brands. One thing I have heard, no idea how true, is concern of counterfeit spark plugs from Amazon.

I have orders TONS from Rockauto without any issues. Rarely a problem and when I have a problem, it tends to get resolved quickly. Heck my blue Monte is on magnet 148 that Rockauto gives out.

What kind of problems have you had with Rockauto?

 

I've had no problems at all from Rockauto. I'm just a poor student and the prices, along with free shipping look good on Amazon. I've just had people tell me that there are some problems with fitment of parts. My worlds most expensive $600 car is probably going to take a number of new parts once I finish with all the electric shorts!
Hell, I'm getting a more complete education in basic electronics from working on this old car than I am in school.

Any time you order from Rock, ALWAYS use a 5% discount code (if you don't have one, it is always a quick google search away). Depending what you are after and if the brands matter, Rock and Amazon are sometimes very close in pricing, but there are times the free shipping from Amazon pushes that deal a little sweeter. Both vendors are really making challenges for the traditional brick and mortar businesses, which if you must get a car running that day, you are at the mercy of those businesses.

Some of what I can say:
- Make sure anything you buy from Amazon has free returns. If it doesn't fit, return it at no charge (but you now need to accept more time to finish what you started).
- Try to stay with known brand names of parts. If you are really pushing a to save money on a brand you don't recognize, then understand you may have some other risks (might not be as durable or might have fitment issues)
- Compare the brands and part numbers with the websites for other auto parts retailers.

Kinda weird hearing these called "old cars". I bought my 2004 Monte Carlo back in 2008..... But, truth is, they are definitely getting old.
