Help Shift Gear Indicator
My 1988 SS has had a 700 R4 installed. Now the indicator in the dash display is not operating at all. The previous owner mentioned that he left a clip off in the dash. How is this indicator operated, and how do I access it? I have an 88 Service Manual from GM, but no information in there.
Thanks,
Barry

The clip is attached to a wire from your steering column to your gear indicator in your gauge cluster. You will have to loosen/remove the gauge cluster to find where the wire attaches to the gear indicator. Let me check my Chiltons manual to see if they show it in there. I will edit this post if it is. The Chilton's manual for these cars will pay for itself in a week!!!!

I will order the Chilton manual for if. I have the GM Service Manual for the 1988 Monte Carlo, but didn't find anything there other than that steering column to indicator reference.
Thanks again, Barry

Hmmm not sure about the floor shift models. Was the floor shift factory or after-market? If after-market, it might not be able to be operational with the indicator on the dash. Honestly, I don't even know how that works even if it was factory installed. Unless there is some way they could attach it to the shift linkage under the drivers side floor board.
Guess I will do some research on that tomorrow to see if I can find out...lol I would like to know how they would route that to even get it to work.
