Default Help monte carlo ss 01 won't turn on - no crank

hi everyone im new to this i saw a lot of help here so decided to ask you guys. hope i can get an answer and save up money since i heard Dealerships charge a lot and i have a low budget rite now -__- well i have a Monte Carlo 2001 SS v6 with 200,xxx miles on it had it for over 6 months no problems at all, i got new optima battery ,3 months ago i did lose my keys so i got a new ignition switch and rested the BCM by leaving the key 10 mins method . it turned on fine and everything was working fine. 3 weeks ago it did shut off on a red light but it turned back on rite away and 3 days later it did it again also in a red light after that never again . SO NOW ITS BEEN 3 DAYS it doesn't turn on :'( no Start no Crank. BUT at first it wanted to start was cranking turn key to off then tried again and got a clicking sound from the hood around the passenger side after that NADA no start no crank Radio , Lights , Dashboard work ok at first then the energy light fades . i tried jump start it no results . when i turn the key to acc i get a message Security , Service Vehicle Soon , and Low Fuel which is weird cause i have a tank full barley had put $60 on it . and the weird thing all gauges don't move the battery gauge moves a little but goes back down all gauges are low . Temp , Oil , Battery ,& Fuel . I notice that when i have the key on acc and i press the power window button or brake pedal lights on Dashboard , Message Center , Radio & headlights all faded little bit that you can barley see . i checked all fuses i replaced few fuses i tried new battery . i heard that if its the starter/alternator/fuel pump/solenoide it will crank ? as soon as i turn the key to ON (start) dashboard/lights/radio shuts off no crank at all and since it says Security/Battery/Low Fuel when its on ACC i did the BCM rest again with the 10mins method and noting .YOU GUYS THINK ITS THE COMPUTER (PCM)HOPE NOT CAUSE I HEARD ITS EXPENSIVE ... i recorded a video i will post it as soon as i upload it . hope i can get an answer thanks everyone and thank you for your time i really appreciate it god bless

It sure sounds like the Computer to me I had 2 Oldsmobile's that had over 200K that did the same thing the repair shop tested it and it was the computer and the thing is about the size of an Ipad fits up under the dash took the shop about 10 min from the time he walk in the door with the new one until he had it running. Call the GM parts dept. and see how much they cost. The repair by the Technician could cost you $500.00 or more but that was about 2001 price.
You can always find a ASIE certified shop to work on it. The dealerships are Big especially in a big town and they want to find other work to do besides if you appear car savi when you walk in they usually won't bluff you but sometimes they will still do that.
I have some of my work done at the dealership in my town about 7K and then sometimes I go to a local shop, I usually ask them how much they will charge so I can cost compare. Check to if you have a trade school near you sometimes they are looking for work to do when training new Technicians to work on cars. ( But it could take time to set this up).
Now if it was me and I had the time I might go to a salvage yard and find a Car like mine, get them to take the Computer out of it and watch them do it then take it home and try it your self. A little footnote hear if you loose your key and need a replacement you can go to your GM dealer with the VIN # and they can call to get the Key Codes for that Car and make you a new one. I am not sure if they can do it anymore but this worked for me on several occasions And they went back as far as 1990, the key with the chip you may need to wait for it to be programed (not sure on that).
Anyway good luck with your car repairs.
I will talk to my son-in-law who has a 2k monte and find out what issues he has had he usually gets the shops to work on them or calls me.
Sometimes the batteries go bad too. but when you said the gauges wouldn't activate while it was running that is a symptom of the computer being bad. It was probably going out a few weeks ago and they have a little bit of life in them to get you home kind of like reserve fuel.

are you serious ?=[ and i need it for work hate taking the bus grrrr but thanks for your help . i know how to take out the computer thats the good thing , i checked on eBay and they're around $70 i searched up "Monte Carlo 2001 Computer PCM" it is that one rite ? i just gotta find one that matches my VIN # . Hopefully i can do it myself need to save $. i lost my keys 3 months ago i changed the ignition and got new keys to start it i programmed it by resting the BCM so thats fine no need for keys =] i wanted to add that to the question since i thought that had to do with my car not turning on & i thought it was the battery but the one i bought was $250 its an Optima but i did try a different one and same thing happened . No my gauges never did that when my car was running , it did it when it didn't wanna start once i turn my key to ACC gauges dont activate the battery gauge goes like 1/4 up then goes back down and the rest gauges dont move at all and on the MESSAGE CENTER it says low fuel which i had put $60 a day before it didn't turn on . but it never did that when it was running i have a video check out the link i put that's how it is but i will rent an OBD II and scan it to see what the problem is hopefully noting expensive :/ once again thank you for your time and help and hope your son in law has an answer for me if not i will let you know what my problem was . thank you god bless

This appears to be a duplicate post in this section. You're most likely looking at a BCM if all the grounds are ok. In the previous thread someone said to check the grounds and I agree. The BCM can be obtained new on Amazon for $120, don't pay the dealer for it. It's easy to install as it's located above the e-brake behind the dash. There'll be 3 wiring harnesses going to it; 2 gray and 1 pink. Slide the driver seat all the way back and tilt the seat all the way back, lay down with your head near the pedals and you should see it above the e-brake.

If you swap it out at home the car will not start after you put the new BCM in. You'll need to relearn security to start the car doing 3 10 minute key on cycles (turn key to start the car and leave it on for 10 minutes until the security light stops coming up on the cluster, do that 3 times). If that was the issue the car should then start and drive. The radio and other options on the vehicle will not function until the BCM is fully dealer programmed (runs about $80 here locally).

Your video is pretty much the same thing the 2002 was doing with the low fuel, low tire pressure, security, battery lights and no start/no crank and the new BCM fixed it.

thanks for your time =] , so the BCM has to do with the car not starting ? i thought it was the computer (PCM) i checked everything and when you say grounds you're meaning wires rite ? sorry im new to this and i know a little bit about car ,i know the basics . yeah on thread i heard to disconnect the middle wire from the BCM and put it back in but noting :/ yeah the good thing is i know where its at and that my dad has tons of tools today or tomorrow im gonna rent an OBDII and scan it and if i scan it and it is the BCM what code is it gonna give me ? i can't go to a junk yard and get me a BCM ? or does it have to be new ? thanks for your time hope to hear from your respond thank you once again

The code scanning step is likely a waste of time unless you've got access to a dealer level tool like a TechII which has bi-directional support. The normal scan tools won't give you any codes with this issue.

The BCM tells the PCM it's ok to start and also communicates to the cluster various information over the class 2 data line that goes to the instrument cluster. I don't think your issue is the PCM.

O'Reilly's has remanufactured BCMs for about $100 after core exchange.
Amazon has new ones for $120.
I wouldn't grab a junk yard one personally and for the $20 difference I went new vs remanufactured.
