Help me keep my 2002 Monte Carlo LS 3.4 (CODE P0751)
Hey everyone! Here's the story. I bought my 2002 Monte Carlo LS 3.4 (my VERY FIRST CAR) a little over a month ago with 179,000 miles on it. It wasn't what I had in mind to purchase but it grew on me when I saw the duo-tone paint job (silver on the top half, black on the bottom half), the 5% tint and heard the exhaust. I liked it even more after I bought it. It drove nicely and I received all kinds of compliments.
About a week after having it, the check engine light came on and I was told that the catalytic converter and resonator needed to be replaced. Whatever. Got the parts and had them installed all for about $350 which isn't too bad seeing as it had to be welded because the converter wasn't direct-fit (long story). Check engine light turned off after that. Cool.
A few weeks later and the check engine light came back on. This time, it was JUST a code p0751 which didn't shock me because I noticed that it was shifting kinda funky when I would stop and then go. I meant to flush the transmission a week before but never did. Did it today and changed the filter. Again, I wasn't shocked that the transmission fluid was almost black from the previous owner's neglect.
Anyway, drove it a bit and the light is still on. So, now, I'm looking into replacing the solenoid but really don't have the money to get it done for me. I definitely wouldn't mind doing it myself if possible with just the bare necessities. Could anyone possibly give me some guidance with this issue? If it requires professional workmanship and a considerable amount of money, then I'll have to put it on CraigsList for like $1200 which I REALLY don't want to do.
