Help!!! Harmonic balancer will not come off 2001 SS
Desperate for suggestions. I've tried everything to remove Harmonic Balancer. Bolt is out the HB tool stripped the removal bolt. Just tried using a tow strap used my truck all I accomplished was moving the car!!!! Seriously considering using a Sawzall
That tow strap idea looks scary. Its an interference fit, you're not going to be able to just apply simple external force (especially a non centered one) to pull it off, you need the mechanical advantage of a screw puller.
What bolt exactly stripped? A bolt in your puller kit? If so, get better grade bolts or a better puller kit depending if you're talking the center screw or the 3 small screws. You are threading the outer screws into the backside of the balancer through the big holes in the front, right? (I've seen people use the large puller bolts and force thread them into the outer oblong holes, only to tear up the puller bolt threads)
Have you tried any heat (on the balancer hub, not the crank snout)? Did you lube the threads on the puller before using it? IMO you need to go back to the threaded puller approach unless the small threads in the back of your balancer are destroyed.

The kit bolt was stripped I ordered one of the heavier duty pullers Hopefully comes in this evening. I bought heavy duty bolts that go in through the balancer holes i think thats why the other one stripped
After numerous attempts and broken tools and stripped out tool bolts the frustration ended with cutting it off with a electric grinder!!! Where there's a will there's a way.
