Default Help!! Car smoking

84 ss monte carlo recently had engine swap to 85ss because it's a complete engine with all smog components
But its basically same 305 right? . Well engine is in but does me no good as car is putting out white smoke . Does not smell of oil or antifreeze but smells of gas. New engine had mechanical fuel pump. But I switched it to electric because that's what my old 305 was set up for. Wen I put new engine in I left the 85 Rochester quadrajet right on the engine I did zero work to carb. Can the white smoke be caused by fuel pressure being to high from my electric fuel pump???

I would check the vacuum lines going to the charcoal canister and make sure there correct or a small chance that the vacuum modulator is bad on transmission and it's sucking leaking fluid in vacuum line. But that would only cause white smoke.

A quadrajet wants around 5psi, much more and it will push the needle off the seat and flood the carburetor. Electric fuel pumps can be a much higher psi. Ones ment for fuel injection are usually 40+ psi. They do make lower psi electric pumps in the 4-16 psi range or so. So it will depend what model you are using but there is a good chance the electric pump is flooding the carb if you are not using a fuel pressure regulator and know what it's set at. Did you have a fuel pressure regulator on the old engine? You could allways put the mechanical pump made to put out the right pressure back on. Also you can get white or grayish smoke from running rich. My 2004 monte was smoking like that and running like crap with a stuck open injector. Or, if the car has been sitting and you have only ran it in park for a while and maybe drove it up and down the street and haven't taken it for a real drive it could be smoking due to condensation in the exhaust. Or both.
