6th Gen ('00-'05): GMTech2 Tips for usage
Hey Guys,
Got my hands on a Tech2. Not only to help with me with some diagnostics, but to possibly reprogram a radio.
A couple years ago I installed an "Unlocked" stereo unit my 2004 Dale Jr Edition.
The seller told me that even though the anti-theft has been disabled I will still have to reprogram the radio to get full functionality with my car.
Since installing it, I have only used it on XM or CD because FM radio is super quiet. So quiet that even at full blast I can barely hear it.
The issue I am having actually very similar to this forum post:

This user mentions reprogramming the stereo for a different model, but I have never even had it programmed for my car. So I am going to start by relearning the VIN with my proper vehicle info.
But the very first question upon attemping the relearn is:
Is the vehicle equipped with an Uplevel radio?
Does anyone know if the bose sound system in the Dale Jr. edition is considered uplevel?
Have any of you had any other experiences with the tech2. I dont want to brick my ecm/bcm.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

My experience with the TechII and radio programming, it will typically show option codes next to the option. If you open your trunk, the RPO sticker is there on the inside of the trunk lid and lists all option codes your Monte was equipped with. You can match it up. Also, if you select the wrong option, you can re-run the process and select a different option.
I actually have a radio from a cavalier/venture van in my 2004 Monte. It allows me to play MP3s on CD, supports XM and works with all the programming and wheel controls in the car.

It was me that was doing some small PCM work (if people wanted a full tune beyond what I was comfortable with, I referred them elsewhere). Side note, I owned BlackSheep's Monte these days.... I now have two of them.
Want some fun reading, take a look at this:

Been looking for someone to tune this thing that wont charge an arm and a leg.
Thats awesome. Got some wicked pics of the rebuild there. I need to go a u-pull yard and get some trim pieces. I need those seat belt guides too. Thats a hard part to find.
The reason I ask about the tuning is because I interested in possibly checking it out myself.
If i cant resolve this EGR code I may purchase an HP Tuning kit and just delete it.
But I am completely green when it comes to tuning. Way out of my area of expertise.

Got my hands on some tuning software and pulled the .bin file from the PCM.
Going to start with just tuning out the EGR Codes so they dont cause a CEL.
But did you change of the other EGR Parameters when you were doing this?

Usually you just set the codes to "do not report". The system then does nothing with them. Admittedly, been a while since I played with the PCM, if you are doing an actual EGR delete, I don't remember off the top of my head if more is involved.
I cannot do the LS4. The primary reasons are that my DHP PowrTuner does not work with it, I *could* use my HPTuner, but then I have to0 up charge for credits. But another big issue, I don't have a break out box to work with the LS4 on a bench. There are other reasons I rather not get involved, such as lack of familiarity with the LS4 settings.
