Default GMs "Simplified maintenance" website. Good reading

Found this site from another forum, and it answers a LOT of questions about the Generals feelings on maintenance, and oil changes, along with links to their GM approved engine oil lists, among many other related topics.

http://www.gm.com/corporate/responsi...nce_040104.jsp

The thread I got this from stated that with talking with the engineers that designed this system, the customer should be changing oil following the DIC's recommendation of when to change the oil, and NOT every 3,000 miles as so MANY service facilities recommend. REMEMBER changing oil every 3,000 miles , needed or not, makes THEM $$$$, and costs you $$$$, a,d according to the GM engineering department, it costs you unnecessarily!

Just trying to save us ALL some coinage here!

BTW, I just switched to Q Horsepower oil from Mobil 1 in the Monte S/C 3.8L. Reason? $18/5 qts vs $26/5 qts, and it's an approved oil. Coinage saving going on here! [sm=smiley20.gif]

I stopped at walmart the other day and Q horsepower was on sale for something like $13.
It was sold out of 5w30 though. Imagine that.
