I Need Help My brakes are going out again, When i got my car It needed brake help so i took it in and fixed it for me. the Service Manager (who is a Monte Fan) ran the Vin and told me everything that my car has been in to see a dealer about. amoung which was two brake jobs now it has had three, I need to do a fourth?

Where I need help is I know I am going to upgrade to the High Performace Brakes But what should i Get Please Help

 

do a serch on here for the big brake convertion or the brake up grade. not sure what it is under but i know we have talked about it .

basically you take the front brakes off the car and replace them with the 12"rotor and the caliper off the F body G.M. (I.E. fire birds,camaros etc.... ) you can even do the vett but i think with the vett calipers you have to change the wheels to gain the spacing needed for it .
i belive they dont fit under the stock wheels.


Im still wanting to do this. but have yet to do so.

have they cheked the line presure on your brakes at rest? I had a older monte that when you would release the brakes they would never relase compleetly.
I had to replace the soft lines on the car to get it to work correctly. but i was going threw pads like every 3 months or so.

I had posted that on the other site a while ago. It was made on a Grand Am, so, Id imagine it would work for ours too. maybe do some checking.... but theres the write up!

 

Iknow it will work on ours. but i cant find the write up for it on a monte.

But it has been done several times to the montes also.
Pretty much the same front end as a Grand am as faras i know.

but one of the showes i was at last summer a guy had it on his. he used the vett calipers on it. said it was all bolt on also. but he also had bigger wheels under it. just dont remeber what size the wheels were.

 

I pulled my one year old powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads off my '01 SS LE when I bought this Intimidator SSand switched them to the new vehicle. The brakes had over 35,000 miles on them, and they looked as new as the factory brakes with 5,000 miles! After 2 more years, and another 67,000 miles, they are almost ready for a change, but are still drivable. I have new pads sitting here, along with F-body calipers and stainless brake lines for the brake job as soon as the weather warms up a little.
I recommend getting the dual piston caliper kit from ZZPerformance, and non-drilled, but slotted rotors, such as the Powerslots, making sure they are PLATED, and lastly, Hawk HPS pads, the cleanest, longest lasting pads I've EVER owned.

By far one of the best packages out there. I have never heard a bad thing about them and everyone that owns them raves about how great they are.

Soon as I clear up some debts this is the way I'm going.

 

i have to say the pads i have on there right now i really need to change out. They have a horrabel dust cast off. so after a week of driving my wheels look like they are black chrome instead of chrome chrome LOL

Those won't fit his car. He has a different part number.

Tim - few quick questions though on those rotors.

How many miles do you have on them?
How long have you had them?
How often do you go through pads?
Do you do alot of stop/go driving in the city/traffic jams?

I've heard that you really eat up pads when you have the crossdrilled and slotted rotors. I've gotten 65,000 miles on my stock setup and original pads. Car first hit the road in Nov 2005. I want to know what I would be going through with your setup and conditions.
