Gas cap and code/check engine questions
I am not sure where i can post this.
I have an 06 monte carlo i am having a problem with the check engine light.
I get the message to tighten the gas cap. I turned the check engine light off last night it is back on. I am also getting po136. Does that mean that mo 02 sensor is bad.
How can i keep the DIC from telling me to check the gas cap after i already did that.
could anyone please help me.
thanks Terry

Douche the Gas Cap.
Stick it in a bucket of warm water and laundry detergent.
Shake it around ... ratchet it a few times in the cleaner.
Pour-out ... repeat 'til clean.
Rinse.
Shoot some WD40 in it and replace.
Everybody whose never done this, ... do it!

I have replaced the gas cap
I went to walmart and got an O.E gas cap
i am still getting the message about the fuel cap
I have checked that
would like info on the P0137 code
do i need to replace the 02 sensor at the rear of the cat how do I check to see if maybe the cat is clogged

Terry,
P0455 problems are vague and elusive. It can be caused by several different problems. It means a large leak in the EVAP system. Besides the gas cap it can be a loose or broken EVAP line, bad fuel pressure sensor, EVAP vent solenoid or EVAP purge solenoid. After the gas cap, the EVAP vent solenoid is the most common problem. It's located in the driver side rear wheel well.
Here's a link: P0455 ? Evaporative emission (EVAP) system -large leak detected ? OBD2 Trouble Codes
P0137 is most likely the downstream O2 sensor itself. A bad cat should throw code P0430.
