Default Fuel Range Reader

I upgraded from my 96 monte to a 05 model and now i have the handy dandy fuel range reader along with all the new features it comes with.

My questions is, once the range gets below 50 miles to empty it switches to read Lo instead of showing the actual miles left.

When it is in the Lo range and i start my car up it will flicker the miles left to ZERO for a split second then go back to saying Lo. Is there a way i can make it show miles left constantly instead of the word Lo???

Not that I know of...My 2006 switches from miles left to LOW at 42 miles. I think the reason they do that is because the miles left till empty can really fluctuate based on how you are driving. Once you are down to your last 40 or so miles, it could quickly turn into 10 miles left if you start hammering the gas pedal. So basically once it switches to low, just get gas.

Why do you keep driving your car so low?

My guess is that the car isn't completely accurate so instead of saying you have 2 miles left of fuel, it just wants you to fill up.

I agree it is the computers best guess and it is hard to calculate time like just idling and how hard your on the gas

I used to have a 1994 LeBaron GTC convertible a few years back that had the trip computer option. It was cool. Now I have one again in my Monte!

the range reading fluctuates like mad. I certainly wouldn't want to be driving while it read "Range - 10 km". Could mean 30, could mean 0.

well i guess i am getting a little lazy, when i had the 96 and it got near the E i filled up because i never knew when i would run out. My friends who have toyotas and chryslers have the same feature but theirs will go all the way to zero and not switch over to Low. I was just curious if anyone knew how to change it. It does fluctuate a lot, i got in and it went from 39 to 51 back to 45 and then went to Lo.
