Default FOB Help Please!

Ok, so when I bought my '05 Monte, it was a demo, I only received one FOB. I ordered a second one on ebay. I programmed the new one and then for some reason, the original one stopped working. So, for the last 6 years, I've used the one I ordered.

Last week, it stopped working, safe bet the battery went dead, right? I opened up the fob and went to take the battery out and the bracket that holds it in came loose.

So, I figured no big deal, I'd get my original fob and reprogram it and I'd be good to go.

I went through the programming steps and heard the beep that signals that it's been programmed. Well, when I went to try it, it didn't work.

Anyone have thoughts? If I try to solder the bracket back on will it work or am I gonna be stuck buying a new fob?

Thanks for any input.

I try to fix it if you can. If not you can then buy a new one.

Thanks for the input Lou.

I guess my main question should have been why wouldn't the original fob work??? I'll try some soldering tonight.

FYI - When programming a fob, you program the new fob AND re-program all your other fobs (up to 4 fobs). The moment you successfully program one new fob, it erases all previous fobs in memory.

I never knew that. Hopefully that's what fixes tj4ndirish's problem.

At least on the 6th gen Montes. That's why the instructions tell you to have ALL fobs available when you do fob programming. I'm trying to find a way to erase all fobs in memory without adding a fob, but that's a different problem and I think the answer is "can't be done".
