Default Engine VIN where to find question?

I pulled the alternator but don't see it. Got 3 numbers off the back behind flywheel 3999289 and then GM or CM 10T and H2472. Only the 3999289 shows any search engine results. Any help on the important number I'm looking for?

thanks man, appreciate that. I'm looking for a stamped number with letters and numbers that was supposed to be on the block behind alternator.

Default 1 last question

Found the number buried under grease. Where can I verify or confirm the number as original?

That link I posted tells you about that number on page 2 That one is on the passenger side in front of the head right ? The casting numer is located behind the drivers head. This is a 6 digit number no letters and is raised (cast) into the block not stamped like the one shown .Good luck

H 24 72 should decode too August 24th 1972 production date That 3999289 should come up on a search apparently not in this link . Still should be able to reference that number though maybe someone else has another casting link .After a little watching for you , is this a big block 454 ?

That it is! I did find the 399' number doing a Google search but nothing on the other so again appreciate the info. I'm guessing it's only worth something to someone restoring a 73 Monte who wants all the numbers to match or I've watched 1 too many Barrett Jackson auctions lol

Well it's still a pre 1973 block which would still be worth something. 1972 was the last year for real power before emissions kicked in effect and big blocks lost a few hundred horse's
