I have a 2001 Monte SS and lately, and randomly (only happend twice so far) when trying to start the car, I'll hear a pop, then see some smoke coming from the under the hood. The first time it happend to my dad when he came back from lunch break, then the second time to me when I was just trying to move it. It cranks up and runs just find afterwards though. I've tried to search around for some answers and didn't find much, but I did find one thing; some person described a problem similar to this and it was their fuel pressure regulator. Just thought I'd ask about it here to see if anyone had this problem or had any ideas.

Oh and btw, so far, we haven't gotten any Engine Lights from this.

 

if the fuel pressure regulator was stuck you would have high gas line pressure, maybe starting super rich? can you pinpoint where smoke comes from?

 

Ensure your spark plug wires are on good, check the spark plugs, make sure the coils are screwed down correctly.
