Default engine issues

I have an 87 monte with a 305 motor (carborated). I was driving it home the other day when it started to run slightly weak and when accelerating from a stop it would start to hesitate a bit. I had to flutter the gas pedel to get it to keep running. After I turned off the car I went tostart it up and it will run for a few seconds and die. If I pump the gas a bunch of times and turn the key it will fire back up for a few seconds and then quit. Anybody have any ideas or a similar issue? At first I thought the accelerator pump went bad in the carb but alsothink it may be a clogged fuel filter, but haven't been able to disconnect the fuel line from the carb to check it yet.

I would say first look at the fuel filter then maybe the fuel pump itself.

Welcom to the forum Nick!!!

X2 on the fuel filter and pump. When was the last time you changed it? If you answer is never, then change it now just do to the age of the car and not knowing if a previous owner ever did.

You can pick up a Fuel line pressure tester from Sears for about $30 and that will give you a pump answer.

Thanks guys, I will check the fule filter and line pressure this Saturday and let you know how it went. I noticed that there was some hesitation when I kicked on the cruse control on the highway for a few seconds which made me think it was possibly a cruse control issue. I checked the vaccume lines and disconnected the throttle arm on the cruse control but that didn't change anything.
